Regulation Research

The Film is rated as an 15

bbfc guidelines for film rating says:

'Violence: violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and have a strong contextual justification.'

We meet the criteria here as we only have little, mild violence. We do not have 'sexualised violence' which would make it an 18.

bbfc guidelines for film rating says:

'language: There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’). The strongest  terms (for example, ‘cunt’) may be acceptable if justified by the context. Aggressive or repeated use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable.'

we also meet the criteria because we use mild language and not regularly. In the opening two minutes there are no swearwords, however the full film would contain them, they would stay within these guidelines.

bbfc guidelines for film rating says:

Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised.

we do have threat in our film but it is not 'sadistic' or 'sexualised' in any way.

BBFC, the purpose of the bbfc is to make sure that the audience is suitable to watch the film, for example something containing sexual scenes and violence would not be at all suitable for people of a lower age range, it would probably be rated at about an 18, although my film does not contain scenes of a sexual nature it does have violence and threat with heavy weaponary.

because our film uses violence, guns and danger to teenages it is not apropriate for viewing of people under 15.

from this post i have developed my understanding of the differences between age restrictions from the bbfc.

  1. Alex, a good start.
You need to comment on the purpose of the BBFC, what is it and what does it do?
Look at the film certifications, how do they differ?
What is it about yours that makes it an 18 not a 15?
